FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my cycle payment the same as paying for a month of service?
Yes. A 20-day cycle is equal to one month's worth service. The cycle month simply charges for 20 actual school days, which excludes teacher workdays, holidays, etc. Cycle one, for example, covers days 1 through 20. Cycle two covers school days numbers 21-40, and so on.
Will I receive a monthly statement?
No, parents are responsible for paying their bill by the first of each month. No bills are mailed. Monthly enrollment is on a full-time basis. Each monthly payment covers 20 actual school days. We do not charge for days when school is not in session. Upon enrollement, you will receive coupons to send in with your payment the first of each month. Part-time enrollment cannot be accepted for children registered in before school or for children registered for the monthly after school plan. Fees cannot be prorated due to absences from the program or early withdrawals.
When can my child start?
You will receive a specific start date upon registering. Typically, the start date is three days from the day Community Education receives the application and first payment.
Can my child(ren) attend for just a few days if that's all I need?
Community Education does not accept partial enrollment for any programs. Fees are based on attending a full cycle regardless of attendance. This allows us to keep our fees low and provide quality staff for each program. Your payment secures a space during each cycle of the program. You may elect to withdraw when the cycle ends.
For emergency purposes, we will accept registrations for weekly attendance but fee charges apply.
Can I enroll for one week?
There are a very limited number of weekly after school childcare slots at each school. If you need for your child to participate for short periods of time the weekly registration may be better for you. Weekly registrations are limited due to licensing guidelines for staff/child ratios. Weekly registrations are not available for the before school program.
Parents who desire weekly registration must first verify that slots are available by calling our office at 560-9488. If a slot is available the registration form and payment must be received in our office a minimum of five working days in advance of the week you want your child to attend.
Rates cannot be prorated for weeks that are less than five school days. Once per school year a non-refundable registration fee must be paid. All weekly childcare slots must be paid in advance by cash or credit card. Checks cannot be accepted. We cannot "hold" weekly slots for children unless payment has been made for that week.
Are programs available outside of the calendar, i.e., teacher workdays, holidays or intersession days?
Community Education provides opportunities for year-round students to participate in full-day sessions during intersession periods throughout the year.
On early release days, programs operate 2-hours early in order to receive students on the Kids-R-Out Early Release days.
Other community agencies provide care for school-age students on holidays and teacher work days. Call the Child Care Services Association at 403-6950 for referrals.
Are there capacities for each program?
Yes - registration is limited at each school site by the childcare license.
Where do I pay?
All fees are processed and recorded at Community Education’s central office, 302 Morris Street. School site managers and staff are cannot accept fee payments.
When do the programs begin and end each day?
While each school schedule varies slightly from one another, the elementary Before School Program begins at 6:45 am each morning and ends when the first school bell rings. The elementary Afterschool Program begins when school is dismissed and ends at 6 pm.
Encore! Middle School After School Programs begin when school is dismissed. End times vary (Please call our office for specific times).
Is homework help available?
Yes! A designated time is made available in each after school schedule to allow for students to work on their homework, and staff members can provide help. It is important, however, that a significant portion of after school time is dedicated to enrichment activities and recreation.
Is breakfast offered in Before School Care?
The before school program does not provide breakfast or a snack, but a child may qualify for or pay for breakfast through the school. Students will be escorted to the cafeteria when the breakfast program begins. Students will be dismissed to class afterwards. Parents are asked to call their school for information about the breakfast program.
Where do I drop off or pick up my child each day?
You will be notified of the designated area to bring your child for the Before School Program. We ask that parents walk their child inside the school and leave in the care of a staff member.
Parents must sign their child out of the After School Program. A sign-out roster with your child's name is placed at a designated table for authorized adults to check a student out of the program each day. Parents receiving DSS subsidies must swipe their attendance card when signing in/out their child each day.
Is transportation provided?
Elementary programs do not provide transportation.
Middle school programs except DSA and Shepard/WGP Magnet do provide transportation home from after school. Students must live in the school’s attendance zone in order to ride a bus home from the after school program.
